"Mansfield is a small town in north-western Louisiana, that was the  site of heavy fighting during the American War Between the States (Civil  War).

"On May 1 and 2, 1999, the Mansfield State Commerative Area, a  historical park, will hold its annual re-enactment of the battle with  costumed re-enactors, period game demonstrations, a period church service  and lectures on various subjects relating to the battle. We are in touch  with the  town's  mayor, by snail mail and the local paper by e-mail.

"Rich in tradition,Mansfield,Louisiana is the seat of De Soto Parish and is located 35 miles south of Shreveport on U. S. Highways 171 and 84. It is 292 miles northwest of New Orleans and 279 miles northeast of Houston, Texas. Other towns in De Soto Parish are Logansport, Keatchie, Grand Cane, Frierson and Stonewall.

"Mansfield has a population of 15,375 and a parish population of 38,238. There are 375,000 people that reside with in a 30-mile radius.      The average temperature is 64. 5 degrees, with a summer average of 84. 9 degrees in the summer and 44 degress in the winter, Our annual rainfall is 42. 99 inches. Keep in mind to have a summer average of 84 degrees it is usually about 100 or 110 degees during the heat of the day while cooling down in the upper 50's at night. This also makes Mansfield a very foggy place due to all the relative humidity.

"Mansfield has a mayor and five member board of aldermen, a planning commision and a zoning commision. Mansfield has only one police department and two fire departments. the fire insurance rating is six.

"The Kansas City Southern Railway and Southern Pacific Railway serve Mansfield and also play a large role in the industry here. Mansfield has a small airport that only handles private planes and small jet planes. The closest comercial airport is in Shreveport about 35 miles away.

"The city receives electricity from Valley Electric and Cleco Power Companies. Natural gas is supplied by Southern Natural Gas and is distributed also by Cleco. Our water supply is provided by Toledo Bend, the largest manmade reservoir in Louisiana and one of the largest in the states. "
